Tradition continues…juniors receive class rings

In a ceremony conducted by junior class officers on October 11, class rings were blessed by Janice May, RSM and presented to members of the Class of 2014 by President Antoinette Iadarola, Ph.D.

A long-standing tradition at Lauralton Hall, the presentation of class rings by alumnae mothers added a special touch to the ceremony. Eileen Duffy, ’79 presented the class ring to her daughter Madison Beem; Laura Terranova, ’87 to daughter Emily Castagna; Kathleen Kearns Donahue, ’80 to daughter Brenna; Claudia Bruno Sheketoff, ’77 to daughter Amy Jo; and Mary Grace Lisk Leone, ’82 to daughter Lindsay Zabawar.

This year the juniors and guests had the opportunity to witness five alumnae grandmothers present class rings to their granddaughters, thus highlighting the importance of this very special tradition. Joan Vincent Attolino, ’53 presented the class ring to her granddaughter Lindsay Attolino; Mona Kamykowski Costantini,‘61 to Quinn Constantini; Elizabeth Von Ehr Costello, ’50 to Megan Dobensky; Margaret Costello Murphy, ’50 to Micaela Murphy; and grandmother Eileen Foley Fitzpatrick, ’42 along with mother Eileen Fitzpatrick Fickes, ’75 to Megan Fickes.

After the ceremony the juniors eagerly participated in the traditional “ring turn” by relatives and friends for good luck while enjoying themselves at the reception they hosted in the Claven Auditorium for their parents.

On October 18 the Class of 2014 will celebrate again at the Junior Ring Dance. Claven Auditorium will be transformed with lavender and white balloons, streamers, white lights and themed centerpieces. Chaperones will form a receiving line to greet the juniors and their dates as they begin the final celebration surrounding the class ring traditions.
