Students participate in Project Appalachia

In early December several Lauralton freshmen participated in Project Appalachia, a community service initiative sponsored by the Benedictine Grange in Easton-Redding that collects donations to be transported and given to those in need in the poorest communities in the Appalachian region of the United States. Along with a group of eighth grade volunteers from St. Thomas School in Fairfield, the Lauralton students spent the day sorting items and packing two semi-trucks with donated goods including furniture, clothing, toys and other Christmas gifts for the children in a very poor area of West Virginia. Although the packing was physically hard work, it was also “feel good” work for the volunteer students because it demonstrated the true meaning of the holidays.

Deanna East, '17 shares, “It was a wonderful experience--being able to help the poorest community by sorting, packing, and filling the huge truck while also being with my best friends.”
