Student-run “January Thaw” premiers February 7

Lauralton's student-run production of “January Thaw,” by William Ross, from the novel by Bellamy Partridge will premier Friday, February 7, at 7:30pm, with an additional showing on Saturday, February 8, at 7:30pm and a Sunday matinee on February 9, at 2:30pm. The play will take place in the Claven Auditorium and tickets will be available at the door - $10 general admission and $7 for students and senior citizens.

The director is Kimberly Pritchard, ’14. Her main duties have included choosing the show, casting, props, costumes and keeping the entire cast focused during the eight hours of after-school rehearsals each week. While admitting the role of director is a lot to take on at her age, Kimberly has enjoyed experiencing leadership, comradery, collaboration and respect through working with her lively and dedicated cast. “I was nervous at first, but when I saw the amazing auditions by the cast members and how they brought the characters to life it helped make me more outgoing.” This empowering position is taking a spot on Kimberly’s college resume, highlighting leadership skills and abilities.

Assistant Director Elizabeth Martinez, ’15 learned a lot while watching her peer take the director lead and is now prepared to take on the role of director for next year’s production. “This experience has allowed several students who might not normally mesh get a chance to know one another and form friendships,” states Elizabeth. “We all work well together and in the end we have put together a fun and enjoyable show we can be proud of”.

Lighting and Sound Manager Aubrey Lowe, ’14 likes the fact that women are running the show. She was trained on back stage technology for lighting and sound by the Connecticut-based company Spence Sound and Stage Lighting. “I enjoyed learning the technical side of things; I am used to being on stage performing, but now I have gotten a chance to learn both aspects of the business.”
